Raising purebred Katahdin Sheep
At Hedgespeth Farms we have been raising and selling purebred Katahdin sheep since 2000 on our farm in Finley, Kentucky. In our flock we emphasize production. We try to grow the best lambs for our buyers/the market. We acquired our first two ewes at the North American Livestock Exposition in Louisville, KY. These ewes were from the Piel Farm and bred to a Canadian ram (PAS 1K). We purchased two other ewes from Bluegrass Katahdins, a ram and three ewes from Gateway Farms. These formed the foundation of our closed flock. During the years we have sold to buyers in Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, Minnesota and the Philippines. We are export certified.Thank you for visiting our website.
Our Farming Practices
Concerned about about parasite resistance, we have through the years eliminated those sheep who were parasite susceptible and have worked to produce healthy, productive sheep. We have learned that a ewe with a gentle disposition is a more productive ewe with strong mothering abilities enabling her to raise multiple lambs to weaning age. Repeat buyers compliment our ewes' attitudes and their ability to produce ample milk for their lambs.
